BDO’s Stamford office has recently doubled in size, marking a new direction for the accounting and advisory firm as it works to reach an expanded clientele in Westchester. According to Maria Karalis, BDO’s Stamford Assurance Office Managing Partner (and one of last year’s 914INC. Women In Business honorees), the office’s growth both physically and in personnel has allowed for clients in the Westchester market to benefit from “more feet on the ground and expanded resources right in their backyard.”

“As a result of this growth, the service offerings that were historically focused primarily in NYC — including specialized tax and core tax services, consulting and auditing — have extended to the Stamford office, making it a more full-service office,” says Karalis.
Jonathan Forman, BDO’s Stamford Tax Office Managing Partner, is quick to note that the firm has already put down deep roots in the county. “BDO currently works with both public and private Westchester-based companies spanning a wide range of industries, including retail and consumer products, manufacturing, healthcare, and technology,” says Forman. “We advise clients on matters related to accounting, tax, mergers and acquisitions, business consulting, technology, and more.”

The Stamford office’s physical footprint and headcount have both recently doubled as BDO works provide improved service to the region. “We’ve focused our growth in Stamford specifically, as its location allows us to provide local, focused service to both the Westchester and Fairfield markets,” says Karalis. “These markets, in particular, are growth areas for the firm given the dynamic industries there that align with our priorities as a firm — namely, life sciences, technology, healthcare, and retail.”
Forman adds as a product of the expansion, several BDO employees have relocated from New York City to Stamford, a move made necessary by the business opportunities offered by Westchester. “The business environment in the area is a great fit for BDO’s business model,” remarks Forman.
Karalis similarly sees a long life for the company in the county. “It’s a very exciting time for BDO in this region,” she says. “We’re focused on growing with local industries to provide a stronger level of service. Most of all, we’re looking forward to continuing our relationships with the Westchester community through BDO Counts (volunteering), sponsorships, and involvement in nonprofits to truly contribute to the area outside of our work with clients.”
