NEW BUSINESSES, RELOCATIONS, OPERATIONS

The Business Council of Westchester has announced a partnership with the Marist Institute for Public Opinion. Based at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, the Marist Institute for Public Opinion is home to the Marist Poll that regularly measures public opinion at the local, state, and national level. In the first initiative of the new partnership with the Business Council, the Marist Poll will conduct a survey of Westchester residents this month on key issues in the Westchester County Executive’s race.

WESTMED Medical Group, one of Westchester County’s largest multi-specialty medical practices, has just signed a lease for a new 85,000-sq ft building at 3030 Westchester Avenue in Purchase. The building is currently under construction by Simone Healthcare Development and Fareri Associates in the current Harrison Executive Medical Park complex that now has three office buildings. This will be WESTMED’s 5th full-service outpatient medical office in Westchester, complete with all primary and specialty care services, advanced radiology, clinical laboratory services and state-of-the-art technology all under one roof.  The estimated time of occupancy is January 2015.

Tarrytown House Estate and Conference Center is giving meeting groups the chance to test their culinary skills – and engage in team-building activities — through a wide variety of live culinary experiences. During the hotel’s Iron Chef Competition team-building activity, corporate groups are broken into three teams and set in a converted kitchen complete with a host of knives, pots, pans and appliances. Then, they battle against each other utilizing components of a market table set in the dining room.  Afterwards, there is a two-hour dinner inspired by the dishes created. For more information visit www.tarrytownhouseestate.com.

Westfair Tech Ventures, a “Tech Meetup” group, has been organized by local serial entrepreneur John Arenas, CEO of Serendipity Labs, to provide a monthly forum offering support, resources, and guidance for the area’s emerging technology firms. The group will meet at Serendipity Labs in Rye every third Thursday, starting September 19.  Within two weeks of forming, leaders from over 50 companies or technology ventures have joined the group.

BIZ BUZZ: OUR BUSINESS BLOG

HERITAGE WHITE PLAINS OFFERS NEW LUXURY SHOPPING DESTINATION

PLUS: Thanks to a refinancing Empire City’s mortgage, an additional $3.7 million in revenue will be added to Yonkers’ coffers.

A partnership involving private businesses, colleges and the Cuomo administration will give students the opportunity to obtain an associate degree at no cost. The Pathways in Technology Early College High School Program, known as P-TECH, extends schooling for students through grade 14, with graduates receiving a high-school diploma, a two-year college degree and a promise of being “first in line” for a job with a partnering private company.

Rockland BOCES applied to work with districts throughout Westchester and Rockland counties, while five businesses and both Westchester and Rockland community colleges will work to devise new ways for teaching math, science and technology. Over the next year, all stakeholders will collaborate to create programs geared toward students with challenges in these areas. The schools will be open to about 6,000 students and will be located throughout the state, while each individual program will come up with an enrollment procedure for students.

The city of Yonkers will receive an additional $3.7 million in revenue, thanks to a refinancing of Empire City at Yonkers Raceway’s mortgage. Last month, The Yonkers Industrial Development Agency’s board approved a refinancing package with tax breaks for Empire City’s $325 million overall debt, including its recent $40 million expansion. Empire City will pay $523,000 in previously negotiated sales-tax reimbursements, plus $3 million in additional payments over the next two years and $150,000 in materials or cash for the Coyne Park Senior and Community Center. Empire City also will pay YIDA $500,000 for its economic development efforts.
