After a bicoastal courtship, one couple returned to their Hudson Valley roots for a romantic, boho, fall wedding.

If you knew Lauren Toth and Phil Scaringi grew up one mile apart from each other in the small Hudson Valley village of Waldon, you might think theirs is a love story a la Corey and Topanga from Boy Meets World. Alas, while they had mutual friends growing up (including Toth’s older brother and cousins), the couple didn’t get together until 2011, when Toth moved back home after college. Still, the two hit it off instantly and took the leap to move to San Diego together in 2013.
Three years later, Toth moved back to the East Coast, where she attended business school, and the duo dated long distance while Scaringi remained in San Francisco. Eventually, New York brought them back together, and they settled in the same time zone (and apartment) once again, in Brooklyn, and now on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. In 2019, Scaringi surprised Toth by popping the question on their way to dinner with friends, just across from Central Park. When they eventually made it to their destination, the group popped Champagne to celebrate the engagement.
When it came to choosing a wedding venue, there was no doubt the to-be spouses’ home region of the Hudson Valley would host. But where exactly? “We didn’t know about Audrey’s Farmhouse previously, but we felt it was perfect after stumbling in,” the bride remembers. “It had indoor and outdoor spaces with a beautiful view of the mountains. The owners, Doug and Sally, are just great. We knew from our initial walk through that it would be the right place.”
Autumnal Charms
When it came to picking a date, Lauren and Phil knew they wanted early fall, just when the area’s turning leaves were really showing off. October 2020 was already booked up, so they opted for a long engagement and sealed the venue for 2021 (a blessing in disguise when it came to pandemic planning).
Aside from the autumnal foliage, Toth didn’t want to do anything too fall cliché (no pumpkins here). She credits the color palette to Pine Bush’s Barn Flora, which created bouquets in mauve, berry, and dusty-peach hues. They were the perfect complement to the property’s patinaed, late-season hydrangea bushes.
Toth picked up on the berry shades for her bridesmaids, and she worked with them to pick a silhouette and fabric they loved in varying Jenny Yoo dresses. The bride chose a minimalist Alexandra Grecco gown, and the groom donned a classic Charles Tyrwhitt tuxedo. Groomsmen wore understated suits from The Black Tux.
The Ceremony
“We knew we wanted to have a wedding — we have big families and a lot of friends — but we wanted some simplicity to the day,” Toth says. The couple’s minimalist tastes shone through with their clothing choices, and though they had a large wedding party, only the best man and maid of honor stood for the ceremony, for a pared-down feel.
To continue with the no-fuss mindset, the couple wed in front of the venue’s greenhouse. They let the setting’s existing greenery do the talking and didn’t add anything to the decor aside from a few florals along the aisle. The bride’s brother (who was also Phil’s close friend in elementary school) served as the officiant, delivering a short and personal ceremony. With the wedding party seated in the front row, the groom’s mother did a reading, and the couple traded “I do’s.”
The newlyweds made their entrance into the greenhouse for dinner, with guests gathered around. “It was a narrow greenhouse we were walking into, so we got to see everyone so close and felt so much joy and happiness for us coming into the room,” the bride remembers, noting this was a favorite moment for both her and Scaringi.
Family Style
The verdant setting at Audrey’s Farmhouse made decorating a light lift. The greenhouse’s hanging vines and freestanding trees set the scene, and Barn Flora added small bud vases along long farm tables. Hudson Valley wedding planners Wylde Rose Events brought in peacock chairs and cocktail tables that complemented the couple’s boho aesthetic.
The setup was perfect for a family-style dinner, catered by Audrey’s. Guests noshed on skirt steak, roasted chicken, fingerling potatoes, green beans, and an arugula salad with champagne vinaigrette before breaking it down on the dance floor to music spun by DJ Ben Boylan.
