Assemblyman David Buchwald's Loves From Politics to Harry Potter

Anna & Amelia. Our beautiful young girls, sources of great joy.

Baseball. Little Leaguers and Mets and Yankees fans can all agree it’s our national pastime.

Caramoor. A beautiful indoor and outdoor music venue in Katonah.

Democracy. You have to believe in the people if you want them to believe in you.

El Centro Hispano. Whether it’s their computer training, English-language classes, or the Girl Scout troop they host, this White Plains nonprofit helps in so many ways.

Friendly neighbors. They are so important. I’m lucky to have great ones.

Grandparents. Excellent babysitters when parents want to remember what it’s like to go out on a date.

Harry Potter. I read the first three books in one week and have been hooked ever since.

I-684. The roadway that forms the backbone of my State Assembly district, which runs from North Salem to White Plains.

John Jay Homestead. A New York State Historic Site in Katonah that combines natural beauty with our nation’s history.

Kensico Dam. Impressive as an engineering feat, and the plaza below the dam is host to numerous cultural and community events.

Lions Club. The county’s largest service organization. The Lions Club of White Plains, where I am a founding member, received one of the newest charters.

Metro-North. One of the economic backbones of our region; I’ve advocated for riders since my days on the Metro-North Railroad Commuter Council.

New York pizza. The best in the world!

Organ donors. Giving of themselves so that others might live.

Playland. As a father of two little girls, I am so looking forward to helping them explore our county’s unique amusement park.

Quiet. We all get too little of it in life.

Rotary Club. “Service Above Self” is their motto. They sponsor community projects, help eradicate polio, and much more.

STEM. Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education in our schools empower the next generation. (Is my college physics major bias showing?)

Teatown Lake Reservation. An outdoor classroom in every sense of the word.

Untermyer Gardens. A Yonkers Hudson riverside gem being rediscovered and renovated.

Village Social. My wife and I adore this Mount Kisco restaurant.

White Plains. At the heart of Westchester and my home, and where I began my time in government as a member of the White Plains Common Council.

Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. The X-Men school from the Marvel Universe is located in my district.

Youth soccer. It’s a World Cup year, and young soccer players around the area take the beautiful game seriously.

Zoo (Bronx Zoo). Before you object that it’s not in Westchester, until the late 19th century the Bronx was part of Westchester County. Besides, “Z” words are hard to come up with!
