Last night at Tappan Hill in Tarrytown, more than 265 people attended St. John’s Riverside Hospital’s “ Making Dreams a Reality” fundraising reception to benefit the Ashikari Breast Center. CBS 2 News Anchor Mary Calvi was Mistress of Ceremonies. The event was significant because it was prompted and organized by the center’s patients. “This is very unique fundraising,” said Roy Ashikari, MD, who founded the Ashikari Breast Center along with his son, Andrew Ashikari, MD. “Most fundraising is started by large organizations. For the Ashikari Breast Center, doctors and patients got together to raise money in order to provide the best patient care.” Debi O’Shea, a breast cancer survivor, was honored at the event. Dr. Roy Ashikari said that funds from the event will be used to purchase a Tomosynthesis, a new high-tech three-D mammography machine that should provide more accurate results.
