ArtsWestchester is celebrating 50 years of working with local artists and bringing their work to the community with ARTSEE, a festival that will bring more than 70 art events (more than half of which are free) to Westchester between March and July.
From the Purchase College conservatory of music to a visual arts exhibition at Blue Door Art Center called Hidden Yonkers, ARTSEE has a wide variety of art and artists on display. ArtsWestchester is the largest nonprofit arts council in New York and their mission is to boost accessibility to the arts in the area. In addition to its cultural value, the arts have been estimated to generate over $157 million in local economic activity. Not to mention that cultural tourists are estimated to spend 70% more than locals.
Some of the free highlights of ARTSEE include: the 2015 Play Reading Series presented by Westchester Collaborative Theater; TABOO, a short film about health crises in New York’s gay community; and Crossing Borders: Memory and Heritage in a New America, a contemporary art exhibition exploring aspects of the immigrant experience.
