Apricots and Honey Wine & Spirits in Mount Vernon celebrated its first anniversary on Saturday, March 18 by hosting a Grand Wine Tasting for the public.
Following in his architect grandfather’s footsteps to “create,” New Rochelle native Shaheer H. Brewster officially became a first-time small business owner in March 2016.
Brewster recalls “apricots” and “honey” as tasting notes to one of the first Italian wines he savored. Wine always led to engaging conversations and story sharing, leaving him with the desire to learn and teach about wine in the right setting.
The central location of the city, coupled with his desire to expand the presence of wine, art, music, and culture in an urban community, led him to Mount Vernon.
In the past year, they’ve hosted wine tastings, live jazz performances, sip & paint nights, poetry readings, pop-up shops, and book signings.

All of this activity happens in a shop that carries the largest inventory of New York State wines and spirits in the county. With more than 60 wines from the North Fork to the Finger Lakes, customers can purchase well-recognized brands like Brotherhood (America’s oldest operating winery located in the Hudson Valley). As for the 50-plus spirits they sell, Port Chester’s own StillTheOne Distillery (287 Single Malt Whiskey, 914 Bourbon Whiskey, and more) is among them.

So what’s uncorked for 2017? Wine education classes, vineyard day tours, and winemaker dinners.
