Whether you’re hitting the trail or the road, these new guided adventures will bring local nature and history alive like never before.

Feel like getting out of the house this weekend? Of course you do; we’ve all been cooped up for way too long. Thankfully, New York State and the Hudson Valley’s own river towns have both come out with new guides that should help you enjoy the wonders of Westchester County while still staying safe and socially distant.

NY State Parks Explorer

On the state level, New York has just launched a brand-new app in the Apple and Google Play stores allowing visitors and even prospective visitors to look up useful information about their favorite parks and historic sites and the activities therein.

The free app includes a curated gallery of rotating content, as well as useful information like directions, park hours and amenities, trail maps, rates and fees, and can even send users important alerts and updates. The app links directly to park camping reservations and lets guests share their experiences by social media.

Historic Hudson River Towns Mobile Audio Tours

A little closer to home, the Hudson Valley’s river towns have joined together to offer professionally recorded audio and multimedia tours through the free TravelStories app or right on the Historic Hudson River Towns website. Listeners can enjoy the historic guided tours while driving, biking, or even walking along the area’s chief roadways and through our nestled downtowns.

Currently, the lineup includes walking and biking tours of the new Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge and a driving tour that brings guests all the way from Yonkers up to Peekskill, over the Bear Mountain Bridge, and down through Rockland County to Nyack and back over the Cuomo Bridge. Walking tours are also arriving soon for Nyack, focusing on realist painter Edward Hopper, and even a joint tour of Irvington, Tarrytown, and Sleepy Hollow. A separate walking/biking tour of Nyack with more of a historic angle is also in the works.
