Bonnie Briar Country Club in Scarsdale hosts the annual Tom Burke Memorial Golf Classic this month, under the leadership of Allen & Company’s Walter O’Hara. The outing raises money for the All Hallows High School general scholarship fund and is held in memory of Tom Burke, who graduated from the 109 year-old institution in 1964.
The school sits in the shadow of Yankee Stadium and has been educating inner city young men for more than a century, remaining true to its mission of educating the marginalized. Even though the school is located in one of the nation’s poorest congressional districts, All Hallows sends 98% of its graduating students on to college. Grads can currently be found in schools such as Boston University, College of the Holy Cross, Fordham University, lona College, Manhattan College, New York University, and Williams College to name a few, as well as the U.S. Naval and Military academies at Annapolis and West Point.
This year’s event honoree is legendary NCAA coach Bobby Cremins, All Hallows alumnus Class of ’65. Cremins will receive the Tom Burke “Never Forget Where You Came From” Award.
