The Yonkers-based nonprofit global health organization Afya Foundation held its first inaugural Benefit Awards Dinner honoring visionaries in global health.
Among the honored were the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee; Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center; and Dr. Jacques Sebisaho, founder and director of Amani Global Works whose relief efforts focus on the island of Idjwi located between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda.
Approximately 200 guests attended the event at X2O Xaviars on the Hudson in Yonkers. Chef Peter Kelly crafted a menu inspired by the cuisines of Africa and Haiti. The evening began with cocktails and a silent auction at 7 pm and then continued with dinner and an awards program.
Bowen & Company, in Hastings-on-Hudson, was the organizer of the event.
