I don’t think outfits have to be expensive to be cool.” With these words — and her relatable, It-girl style — Lisa Rodrigues-Hickey won our hearts. Hickey and her new Katonah boutique, Fado (www.shopfado.com), are a welcome addition to Westchester’s fashion scene, offering chic-yet-casual pieces from a number of cult labels, like Veja (Meghan Markle’s favorite sneakers), Amo, Sanctuary, Free People, SAM, and LoveShackFancy.
A well-stocked denim bar (Citizens of Humanity for the moms, AGOLDE for the daughters, says Hickey), Madeworn rock T-shirts, and Eberjey PJs are also part of the mix. Fado customers, she says, “want to be at the forefront of fashion,” but understand that they don’t need to spend a fortune to do so. “Price point is not the point,” says Hickey.
The Chappaqua mom of three, who comes from a family of Portuguese entrepreneurs, also runs a Manhattan wholesale showroom. The boutique, which Hickey opened with her business partner Nick Ammaturo in July 2018, pays homage to Hickey’s roots — fado means “destiny” and also is a type of traditional Portuguese music — and its clean, fresh aesthetic is based on European boutiques that Hickey loves. The vibe, meanwhile, shouts LA casual. As Hickey explains, “It’s welcoming and fun — as fashion was meant to be.”
Here, a few top picks to wear now from Fado:
Top: Generation Love, Suzie Camo Sweater, $225; Bottoms: Citizens of Humanity, Rock Crop Jeans in Glory, $208; Shoes: Veja Esplar Sneaker in White, $130
