A Merry Month of Westchester Fun

The month of December, overstuffed with holiday spirit, tends to be a bit hectic sometimes. Between decorating, gift shopping, and hitting the mall to snap a pic with Santa, it can be difficult to fit in some fun things, too. Luckily we decided to be one step ahead this month and assembled the ultimate winter holiday activities list so you can squeeze in some good cheer in between all the inevitable merry mayhem to come.

Westchester All Stars Christmas For Veterans Concert

Kick off your family’s holiday season with the 5th annual veterans concert featuring Rock N’ Roll Hall of Famer Gene Cornish, of The Rascals, rock drummer Carmine Appice of Vanilla Fudge and comedian Tony Darrow from The Sopranos and Goodfellas.

Spector, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2007, has headlined over acts like the Rolling Stones and Eric Clapton, so you won’t want to miss this night out. 

 

Jessica Lynn Country Christmas Party

Returning from her first international tour, Yorktown Heights native country star and Westchester Magazine Wunkerkind Jessica Lynn will be celebrating the holidays at Peekskill’s Paramount Theater, where she filmed the full length PBS televised concert Jessica Lynn — Taking Over. There will also be a benefit for the Westchester County Marine Corp reserve’s Toys For Tots.

The Hip Hop Nutcracker

If you’re tired of the old-school original Tchaikovsky score lulling you to sleep, check out this contemporary holiday mash-up of The Nutcracker. Directed and choreographed by Jennifer Weber, artistic director of the all-female hip-hop crew Decadancetheatre in Brooklyn, this re-imagination of the classic play is on its second national tour.

While LEGOs are supposedly for kids, there are plenty of adults who find joy in their architectural potential. If you’re one of those adults (and you’re over 18) head to LEGOLAND Discovery Center in Yonkers for a night of ugly sweaters, holiday movie trivia, a gift wrap relay race, and more.

The Maritime Aquarium
Santa joins the dive team to visit the shark tank wearing scuba gear. The bearded gift guru dives into the “Ocean Beyond the Sound” tank, which is home to 7-foot sharks, probably to bring them a gift or two.
