A rain-soaked championship didn’t stop Danny Balin from defending his title at the Met PGA Professional Championship. The Westchester CC assistant pro put nine birdies on his scorecards at the Golf Club of Purchase and Paramount Country Club to edge Jason Caron and Mike Midgette by a stroke and notch the win.
The tournament was originally scheduled for three rounds, but the middle 18 set for Old Oaks CC was washed out.
The Met Professional Championship serves as the qualifier for next year’s PGA Professional Championship to be played next April at Belfair of Bluffton in South Carolina, where twenty club pros will advance to the 2019 PGA Championship scheduled for Bethpage Black in May. Balin and twelve other local pros will represent the Met PGA at Belfair.
Westchester pros who qualified include Patrick Langan (Golf Club of Purchase), Anthony Casalino (Scarsdale GC), Greg Bisconti (St. Andrew’s GC), Carl Alexander (Golf Club of Purchase), Rob Labritz (GlenArbor GC), Mitch Gray (Pelham CC), Tim Puetz (Siwanoy CC), and Frank Bensel (Century CC).
