9 Restaurant Openings We're Looking Forward to in 2017

Juniper

When: February

Where: Hastings-on-Hudson

Since Alex Sze closed the original location of Juniper, we’ve been (not that patiently) waiting for him to reopen. Finally the new outpost of the Hastings restaurant is nearly here – with a major bar upgrade. Clark Moore, formerly of Harper’s in Dobbs Ferry, is curating the cocktail list (Juniper was previously BYOB), and the new menu is targeted toward small plates with great sharing potential.

Argana

When: February

Where: Port Chester

Opening in the space that was formerly nessa, owner Nordine Achbani is mixing his Moroccan heritage with more than 20 years of restaurant experience. His goal: to break misconceptions about this North African cuisine with familiar sweet-and-savory dishes like tagine, and lesser known options including B’stilla, a Moroccan chicken pie.

The Banh Mi Shop

When: February

Where: Downtown White Plains

Soon to be added to the city’s slew of new openings is The Banh Mi Shop, which will serve the iconic Vietnamese sandwich as well as traditional pho, boba tea, and a variety of grilled mains and appealing-sounding appetizers like lemongrass-garlic Brussels sprouts.

Alex S

Jacob Styburski

Revenge BBQ

When: late February

Where: Main Street in Irvington

Houston ’cue king Russell Roegels acted as “barbecue Yoda” for Jacob Styburski’s new Rivertown shrine to Texas-style smoked meats. The menu features the Texas trinity – brisket, ribs, and sausage – plus classic sides and pudding cups (according to Styburski, “there have to be pudding cups”). Expect great interiors too: Styburski and his wife are designers by trade.

Cafe La Fondita

When: March

Where: Mamaroneck

The owners of Lago in Harrison are also hard at work on this colorful Latin takeout café with an emphasis on fresh, locally grown (including from the owners’ own garden) and organic produce. The bright façade features an original mural based on owner Valerio Morano Sagliocco’s travel drawings.

Hudson Farmer & the Fish

When: Spring

Where: Sleepy Hollow waterfront

Just in time for warmer weather, the guys behind North Salem’s Purdy’s Farmer & the Fish are bringing us this supremely summery spot along the Hudson. An FDNY fireboat acquired at auction will dock next to the restaurant, and the open kitchen with steam kettles and a pizza oven will serve hungry patrons on the outdoor deck.

Colony Grill

When: Summer

Where: Port Chester waterfront

Famous for its pizza-pilgrimage-worthy bar-style pie with hot oil, this will be the first Westchester location of the Stamford institution, which opened its doors more than 80 years ago. Port Chester just approved plans for construction to along the Byram River down the block from bartaco.

Eagle Saloon

When: Summer

Where: Downtown Peekskill

One of two new ventures from restaurateur Louie Lanza in 2017, this Americana-style restaurant/bar is slated to open next door to The Hudson Room. The menu features food and drinks from different US regions (think Creole, low-country) and a stage will host live music.

Factoria

When: Summer

Where: Peekskill Riverfront

Lanza is partnering with Captain Lawrence Brewing Co.’s Scott Vaccaro to open this seafood restaurant and catering hall with a massive deck on the Peekskill waterfront — boat slips included! The sprawling complex will include family-friendly activities like a bowling alley and arcade.
