8 Ways to Make Your Eyes Stand Out on Your Wedding Day

The eyes have it!

The eyes are, indeed, the windows to the soul, and if there’s ever a day to make sure those windows are shiny, bright, and beautiful, it’s on your wedding day.

Here, award-winning makeup artist Meredith Hayman shares eight tips to make your soul-windows sparkle!

1. Walk a Fine Line

For bigger eyes, try thinner lines. “It’s best to see shadow above the lash line when eyes are open, not just a thick black line.”

2. Fake It ‘Til You Make It

For a glamorous look that’s natural — and fairly effortless — add false lashes. The key is not to overdo it. “I prefer individual lashes over a strip because you can use as few or as many as you wish. They attach to the natural lash as opposed to the lash line, so they are super comfortable!”

3. Pencil Me In

“Use waterproof eyeliner pencil inside bottom waterline. To make eyes look as big as possible, use a light reflective pencil with shimmer in a taupe shade. Black or brown is too dark and will make your eyes disappear from a distance.“

4. Lash Out

“Curl top lashes only by evenly placing them in the curler and pinching your thumb and forefinger as tight as possible. Gently release your grip and your lashes will have bend that lasts all day. Note: Use lash curler on clean lashes — no mascara. Apply mascara after they are curled.” Blow-dry lashes (make sure the dryer’s not too hot) for extra oomph!

5. Frame ‘Em

Eyebrows frame the face and draw attention to the eyes. Enhance your brows naturally by filling in sparse areas with a brow pencil and comb through with a clean mascara wand or brow brush.

6. Start Smoking

“Smoke out the outer corner — use a soft gray shadow in the outer corners of the eyes from lash line to the bottom of the crease — blend toward center of the lids.” The bold and mischievous look you crave.

7. Shape Up

“Use bright shadow in crease  — use a peach or pink tone — to open them up and enhance the natural shape of your eye.”

8. Lighten Up

For extra brightening, “highlight under brows and inner corners. I prefer a matte highlight under the brow and shimmer in the inner corner.”
