Austin’s Powers: June 8If you don’t yet recognize the fresh young face of Austin Mahone, you might want to ask your kids. When you do, if you let it slip that he’ll be headlining K104.7’s KFEST, they’ll beg you to take them to Dutchess Stadium in Wappingers Falls to see him perform. This time, indulge them: As far as festivals go, the $40 ticket gets you a lot for your money, with Jason Derulo, Nick Cannon, Lil Jon, Icona Pop, local favorite Timeflies, and others joining Mahone on the bill. |

Play On at the Crayon: June 8Regarding singer/songwriter Erin McKeown’s newest album, Manifestra, the Boston Globe writes that “McKeown eschews genre, crafting tunes from mechanical rhythm loops, spooky, fuzzed-out blues guitar, and lush strings.” See her genre-hopping songs performed live at The Purple Crayon in Hastings-on-Hudson. |
Shakespeare on the Lawn: June 10 – August 31For us, it just isn’t summer until we’ve packed a picnic, driven up to Boscobel House and Gardens in Garrison, spread a blanket, and enjoyed an alfresco dinner overlooking the Hudson River before catching a performance by the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival. This year’s festival has three plays in rotation: Othello, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, and The Liar (which isn’t Shakespeare, but David Ives). Diehard Bard fans can also join the HVSF on June 7 for an English lawn party gala that celebrates Shakespeare’s 450th birthday. |
Bronx in Port Chester: June 7Sure, we’ve all see the movie of A Bronx Tale (the directorial debut of Robert De Niro), but this month you’ll have a chance to see the stage play that started it all—including Chazz Palminteri’s career. Palminteri, a former bouncer, starred in the original one-man show, which he also wrote based on events from his own life. He will perform A Bronx Tale for one night at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester. |
Oh, Mandy: June 7 – September 14You might’ve been excited about the recent release of Maleficent, but Angelina Jolie isn’t the only one inspired by a dark turn on fairy tales. Seattle-based artist Mandy Greer shows her work, which draws on ancient myths and fairy tales, in a new exhibition titled Mandy Greer: The Ecstatic Moment, on view at the Hudson River Museum. The exhibition is a site-specific installation that winds its way through the galleries and Glenview, the museum’s on-site Victorian mansion. |
