7 Awesome Westchester Events You Should Hit Up This Week

Wednesday, December 5

Congratulations, you’ve made it halfway through another week! Time to celebrate with a tall, frosty brew. But what if you could make your own frosty brews to have whenever you wanted? The Riverfront Branch of the Yonkers Public Library will be holding a special holiday themed edition of “Brewing 101” workshop exclusively for the 21-and-over crowd, that promises to offer up to 15 patrons the basics of the brewing process, as well as tasting samples of 6 different beer styles. (You know, for educational purposes.)

 

Thursday, December 6

Leave the kids at home this week while you play with all the cool toys: LEGOLAND Discover Center in Yonkers is hosting their monthly Adult Night with a fun, wintry theme. Guests will enjoy the usual rides and 4D movie experience (incredibly, it’s always as fun and giddy as your sense of nostalgia says wouldn’t be possible), as well as all the local landmarks in MINILAND and the new City Builder zone. Master Model Builder Willis Reifsnyder will be on hand for some seasonal creations, and guests should bring their A-game for the snowman scavenger hunt and holiday movie trivia contest! Tickets are only $15, and food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Friday, December 7

We’re fully into holiday shopping season, so if you’re looking for something unique or to cross a couple names off your list, consider dropping by the Croton Artisans Holiday Boutique. You can pick up handcrafted items like textiles, ceramics, paintings, home goods, hand-bound books, toys and dolls, soaps and personal care items, even jewelry and paper art! The actual boutique runs all day Saturday and Sunday, but Friday night from 7:30 to 9 p.m. is the opening reception and wine tasting, so drop by for some live music and snacks while you preview what you’ll be adding to your own Christmas list!

Not so much the quiet cocktail party type? Are you more of an out-loud rocker? Well then head on over to Peekskill’s Paramount Theater Friday evening for a Christmas concert that “goes to 11.” (To be clear, that’s a Spinal Tap joke; the actual concert ends at a very reasonable 9:30 p.m.) The 7^th Annual Westchester All Stars & Friends Christmas for Veterans Concert promises an evening of big talents, including Saint Nick himself! All proceeds will fund veterans charities, and tickets range $35 to $100.

Saturday, December 8

Show of hands, who here loves Hamilton? History buffs will be stoked this weekend, first with some real-world fascinating history, and then for a local period take on a Christmas classic.

Starting at 11:30 a.m., the Jay Heritage Center in Rye will be hosting Tales of the Famous, Infamous & The Unsung, with a full day of planned activities. Mary Calvi, CBS anchor, Yonkers first lady, and author of Dear George: A Novel of George Washington’s First Love, Mary Philipse, will be available for a meet-and-greet to discuss her book, as well as educational events and tours around the historic site, and even performances by a revived fife and drum corps!

Later, at 2 p.m., head back North to the Paramount Hudson Valley Theater for the yearly performance of The Colonial Nutcracker. A Westchester favorite, the show gives residents a full rendition of Tchaikovsky’s famous winter ballet, set in the picturesque colonial period of Westchester’s long history. Narration is included for younger theatergoers, so the whole family can enjoy jeering the redcoat rodent army. Tickets are $28.50.

Sunday, December 9

The fun continues on Sunday, with George Balanchine’s more traditional version of The Nutracker being screened at The Picture House Regional Film Center in Pelham, complete with live dancers who will also be available for photos at intermission.
