6 Things You Can Eat and Drink to Look and Feel Healthier

The right kinds of food can serve as all-natural, easy remedies to help revitalize the body, says certified health coach Liz Zuckerberg of Chappaqua.

Bye-Bye Dry Skin

Zuckerberg’s number-one tip for combating dry skin and hair is drinking water: “Water keeps your skin plump, filling in wrinkles and fine lines, and helps clean out toxins in your body that can lead to dryness, dullness, and ultimately nasty breakouts,” she says. Zuckerberg also shares that salmon is great for dry skin. “Salmon contains omega-3 fatty acids, which help strengthen skin cells, reduce inflammation, and irritation — and even protect against cancer. The omega-3 fats will boost hydration and help prevent acne.”

Pump Up the Radiance

Avocados and blueberries are good choices for radiant skin, says Zuckerberg. “Avocados contain poly- and monounsaturated fatty acids, which keep skin looking firm and help regenerate damaged skin cells. They are also good for reducing inflammation and redness,” she explains. And blueberries, she says, are packed with vitamin C, “helping to reboot the collagen in our skin, which keeps it supple and firm. They’re also a tremendous source of antioxidants that protect our skin from the sun and free radicals, which we know can cause long-term damage.”

Battle Brittle Nails

Eggs are Zuckerberg’s top suggestion for this beauty fix. “Eggs are full of protein, essential to growing strong and healthy nails and hair, and are rich in B-vitamins, including biotin, which has been shown to increase nail and hair strength.” Eating like Popeye doesn’t hurt either. “Spinach is also great for your nail health (and overall health). Spinach — as well as other dark, leafy veggies, like kale — contains iron, B vitamins, folate, and vitamin A, all of which assist nail strength and growth.”
