Elementary Indulgence
Technically, it’s not a full-fledged spa. In fact, Elements Massage in White Plains offers one service only: therapeutic massage. But the massages are performed with such expertise, Elements warrants more than a passing mention. Though this year-old business is part of a nationwide franchise, Elements promises (and delivers!) a truly personal, customized massage. Instead of choosing from a set menu, you describe in detail what you want in your massage and are matched with one of nine licensed therapists, each of whom specializes in one or more techniques, from traditional Swedish and deep-tissue to craniosacral, hot-stone, sports, or prenatal. Rates are determined by the length of your session, so a combination of styles doesn’t cost extra. (Be sure to ask about shiatsu, connective-tissue, or trigger-point therapies.)

Take note: While first-timers enjoy an unheard-of rate of $59 for a one-hour massage, returning clients’ rates start at a still-affordable $99 for one hour. Wellness Program members get a 30-percent discount on monthly massages.

Mold a New You
Unlike some health clubs that tack on the word “spa” at the end of their names because they offer massage, Port Chester’s posh Clay Health Club + Spa, open since September 2014, offers a full complement of luscious spa treatments including body therapies, massages, and facials. Spa guests also get a day pass to the entire facility. Take advantage of Clay’s integrated wellness concept with a group barre class, a smoothie or Moroccan salad at the organic café, and an indoor or outdoor lounge session before or after your treatment(s). “We’re a boutique club, so it’s really quiet and private here,” says Spa Manager Katie DeMaria. “People have been coming in to enjoy our signature therapeutic massage and signature facial and making a day of it, a mini-retreat of lunch, steam and sauna, and a yoga class.”

Let ’Em Come to You
If you resent the abrupt transition from full relaxation back to reality when driving home from the spa, you may want to book your next pampering session with Lespri Spa Services, a “mobile spa” that offers facials and massages in your own home. Licensed esthetician Rachelle Richardson started the business this past December, traveling to homes in Westchester, Rockland, and Bergen counties, as well as to offices seeking chair massages, along with a professional massage therapist. In tow: Naturopathic skin products and her own hot-towel machine. “I wanted it to be more accessible and convenient for people to have wellness services,” says Richardson. “People usually think about massage and facials as a luxury, but they should be part of your whole health regimen.” Heed Richardson’s advice with a 60-minute, energy-stimulating Renew Herbal Massage ($150) or an anti-aging Pure Results Facial ($170).
Party on: Spa parties are Richardson’s specialty. “They’re a great way to get people together for chair massages, short table massages, or facials,” she says.

Good Things Come in Small Boxes
If you’re a nervous first-timer looking into laser hair removal—or simply value privacy and familiarity—the one-on-one dynamic at The Beauty Toolbox may be a more comfortable fit than some of the large, more corporate-feeling spas and medi-spas in the area. Licensed esthetician Nancy Six practiced in Manhattan for eight years before starting the business at home in Westchester a year ago, setting up shop in a private space at Sola Salon Studios in White Plains. “It’s unique because you’re always going to deal with one person,” Six says of the experience she provides. “I try to make it really individualized.” Hair-removal options, for light and dark skin types, range from small areas like the lip or chin ($119) to medium-sized swaths like the underarms or bikini line ($219) up to a half-leg ($319). The cost covers the standard six visits per area treated.
What else: Six is also fully certified in and offers facials, chemical peels, body exfoliation, IPL photofacials, ingrown-hair treatment, and reflexology.
