7/11 & 12 — Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll

As part of its Sounds of Summer 2018 film series, the Jacob Burns Film Center will offer a two-part showing of Rolling Stone: Stories from the Edge. The HBO documentary chronicles five decades’ worth of music, history, and popular culture as examined through the lens of the hallowed magazine. Narrated by Jeff Daniels and featuring songs by Bruce Springsteen, the Clash, Ice-T, Janis Joplin, the Sex Pistols, Tina Turner, and — naturally — the Rolling Stones, the first part’s screening on the 11th will be followed by an audience Q&A with filmmakers Brian Foster and Alex Gibney.

7/12 — Make Your Own Rock History

Ready to be included in those illustrious pages above? Then try your hand at Purpl’s open mic night in Hastings-on-Hudson. From 7:30 to 11 p.m., enjoy the local talent or get up on stage yourself! The evening is specifically geared toward smaller acts and original music (only one cover allowed each!) and the stage is open to both teens and adults. Tickets are only $8, and sign-ups run up until 8:30.

7/14 — Peekskill, America

Yes, Peekskill’s historic Paramount Hudson Valley Theater will host classic rock band America this Saturday. The “Sister Goldenhair” and “Horse with No Name” legends will take the stage at 8 p.m. after opening act Chris Berrardo. Tickets range from $45-$90.

7/14 — The Return of P-Fest

Elsewhere in the county, Pleasantville Music Festival will be rocking equally hard all day long, featuring the likes of The Psychedelic Furs, Robert Randolph and the Fmaily Band, Lizzie & the Makers, and more! Everyone’s favorite sustainable music fest will rage from noon until 9 p.m., and while shady Tent City tickets are already sold out, there are still plenty of GA tickets left to enjoy the music.

7/15 — A Big Anniversary

The Ridgefield Playhouse will be presenting a special 30th Anniversary screening of the Tom Hanks classic Big on Sunday, featuring exclusive content from Turner Classic Movies. Tickets are only $12.50, though guests will have to provide their own enormous functional floor pianos.

7/15 — “Sea” a Classic

If you prefer your tap dancing numbers a bit more “lively,” then head down to the Westchester Broadway Theatre for a matinee or evening showing of Anything Goes. The Tony-winning revival comes with or without dinner and in a variety of times and ticket pricings to match. Got Sunday plans already? Well don’t fret; there are several performances earlier in the week and plenty more running through September 9.
