It’s no secret that the City’s savviest designers come up to Westchester to hunt for vintage and antique treasures. Guillaume Gentet, an award-winning Manhattan designer with a penchant for uncovering highly coveted antiques, is one such fan of the County’s antiquing scene. We asked Gentet, whose work focuses on high-end residential projects from Park Avenue lofts to houses in the Hamptons (he also designs custom cabinetry, furniture, and accessories) to share five of his must-stop spots.
Blithewold Antiques

“Blithewold Antiques has a great collection of Swedish and English pieces,” says Gentet, “and if you’re going for a Hamptons look, this is where you want to go.” He also suggests that Blithewold is a great place for out-of-town visitors, since it has a collection of newer pieces that are available to take home; you don’t have to wait for them to be delivered.
Briggs House Antiques

“This shop has a lot of French antiques from the 18th century,” says Gentet, adding that he’s found a lot of very beautiful pieces here, including buffets from Provence and Louis Philippe mirrors done in yellow gold. He notes that the Briggs House website is also very informative about individual pieces and that the shop has a few booths at Greenwich Living Antiques & Design Centre, an indoor antique market in Stamford, Connecticut.
Dixon Lane Antiques

“Dixon Lane has an eclectic mix of some very interesting pieces,” says Gentet, who specifically mentions styles of chairs and game tables that he has not seen anywhere else. “It’s a great place to visit if you’re looking for something unique.”
Post Road Gallery

“A great collection of 19th century paintings lives at this gallery,” says Gentet, who also singles out its very nice selection of English antiques. “If you’re looking for pieces of a more formal, traditional style,” he adds,” this is a fantastic place to go.”
Suburban Renewal

“There are a lot of very traditional antique shops nearby, so you’ll tend to see a lot of the same things from store to store,” explains the designer. “But if you’re hunting for something that you haven’t seen anywhere else, Suburban Renewal is your best bet.” Because it does consignment as well, the selection is wider and more eclectic, and it’s also a good place to start if you’re on a budget.
