5 Spring Golf Must-Haves

You can’t just spring into golf without an equipment check. Just think how much better you’ll play after you get new wedges with sharp grooves, throw out that wrinkled wind shirt that’s stuck to itself inside your golf bag, and toss your cracked and beyond-polishing shoes in the garbage where they belong.  Here are some ideas for replacements as well as a few other items to consider:

Tour Edge Golf Rally Wedge
$80

No matter what kind of lie you, the Rally Wedge will being out a magic touch around the greens. Tour Edge engineers gave the wedge a high toe so you can open the club face for soft-landing flops. The cambered sole is rounded for minimal turf drag and the concave flange incorporates a medium bounce angle for any turf or sand conditions.  Four lofts are available: 54 degrees with 13 degrees of bounce, 56 with 13, 58 with 10, and 60 with 10.

Skechers Go Golf Bionic 2
$105

An organic design allows your foot to move more naturally in this lightweight, waterproof shoe. There’s also a traction outsole for better grip and mesh tech heel construction with high performance cushioning for comfort.  The spike-less cleats are sturdy yet flexible—and easy on the soles of your feet.  Best of all, the Go Golf Bionic 2 only weighs 10 ounces per shoe, so a second 18 holes won’t be a problem.

Sun Mountain Cumulus Pullover
$120

Not every golf day this year will be dry and sunny, but you can play anyway in the short sleeve Cumulus pullover by Sun Mountain. It’s super lightweight and extremely breathable, so it’s ideal for quickly passing spring showers.  The Cumulus pullover is fully seam-sealed with deep center front and side zipper for easy on and off. It’s also back-pleated so your range of motion isn’t restricted.

Golf Buddy Distance Devices
$300

Golf Buddy has perhaps the most expansive line of distance devices in the market. No matter whether you prefer a laser range finder, a GPS-enabled watch, or a tiny gizmo that you can clip on your hat brim and whispers the distances in your ear, there’s a Golf Buddy product for you.  The top of the laser line is the LR5S, that offers 6X magnification and three targeting modes—plus accuracy within a single yard. There’s also an optional slope feature that provides adjustments for elevation changes.

Bridgestone Tour B330 Golf Balls
$35/dozen

Bridgestone brings us four new balls in the Tour line, the B330 and B330S for faster swing speeds and the B330RX and B330RXS for those of us with swing speeds under 105 mph. The “S” designates a softer cover for more spin around the greens.  Bridgestone’s Adam Rehberg says the most innovative feature this year is the company’s new SlipRes cover. “It has the highest friction coefficient rating possible so it achieves the impossible—maximum  greenside spin and reduced spin off the driver for longer distance.”  How do you know which ball is right for you?  Rehberg says, “If you can’t get to one of our free ball fittings, you can use our online guide. It’s a nice tool to utilize to fit your ball to your swing.”
