5 Pieces of Advice for a Perfect Wedding

Planning your wedding? Make sure you read this first.

Planning your wedding can involve a lot of overwhelming details. Not sure how to handle booking vendors or choose the right lip hue? Take it from the experts: these five wedding vendors offer their best advice on planning and enjoying your big day.

Venue Comes First

“Make sure you book your venue before you book any other vendor,” advises Lauren Stanco of LCR Events in Cortlandt Manor. “Focus on the location and kind of venue you like, whether you want it to be a hotel, on the water, or a farm. Then, nail down the date and choose other vendors based on that.”

For Photography, Personality is Key

“Couples should be looking at three main things when booking photographers,” shares photographer Michael Priest. “First, do they like the photographer’s work? Second, does it suit their price range? However, who is at the other end of the camera is often overlooked. Couples will be spending a lot of time with the photographer including intimate moments, so it’s important to have a good rapport and [a compatible] personality. We make sure that we’re very professional yet personal because it’s a very personal day.”

Put Together a Playlist with Your Guests in Mind

“We try to cater it to each couple, but we tell everybody that the day is about entertaining the room, not just about them,” says Corey Gudewicz of Briarcliff Manor’s Jimmy Dee Entertainment. “If the couple only wants hip-hop music for four hours, it never really works. Just keep it fun and upbeat — and keep it simple.”

Choose Your Lip Color Wisely

“I would go with a lip color close to your lip color and to the groom’s lip color so it doesn’t show up on the groom when you kiss him,” suggests makeup artist Meredith Hayman of About F.A.C.E. in Yorktown Heights.

Be Realistic

“Be concise,” advises Dennis Nutley of Green Cottage in High Falls. “It’s better to do a few things well than to check everything off your wish list. Pick a thread [that will run] through your wedding so everything is cohesive.”
