5 Local Fitness Pros Reveal Their Favorite Healthy Meals

Some healthy, mid-day meal options that’ll keep you going and taste good, too

Predictably, many of us are once again struggling to maintain our summer bodies throughout the holiday season. One step in the right direction is making good decisions when it comes to food. In this spirit, we asked an array of local fitness pros just what Westchester spots they run to for a tasty and healthy lunch:

1. Stephanie Petruccio, Instructor and Suburb Instructor Development Manager at SLT (Rye Brook & Scarsdale)

Favorite Healthy Lunch: Vegetable Frittata and Nutty Monkey Smoothie from Organic Pharmer (15 Rye Ridge Plaza, Rye Brook & 28 Garth Road, Scarsdale)

“My go to in the morning is always their iced coffee with almond milk and then my meal consists of the vegetable frittata, along with their smoothie called the ‘Nutty Monkey.’ The frittata is made from chickpea flour with seasonal vegetables. The ‘Nutty Monkey’ is made from almond milk, protein powder, bananas, blueberries and other fresh ingredients. These are filled with protein, fiber and healthy carbs, which I need after teaching high-energy classes all morning! The products they serve are gluten, dairy, soy, corn and egg free. You will be more than satisfied and your body will be fueled with yummy, fresh food!”

2. Angela LoBrutto, Founder of Angela Claire Fitness (West Harrison)

Favorite Healthy Lunch: Salad from Green Life (266 Mamaroneck Avenue, Mamaroneck)

“Green Life is best known for its fresh salad bar with a variety of toppings. I like creating my own salad filled with chicken or any protein available, avocado, and vegetables including peppers, asparagus, cucumbers and lettuce.”

3. Chris Guerrero, Owner of CrossFit Westchester (White Plains)

Favorite Healthy Lunch: Lettuce Wrapped Burger from Elevation Burger (228 Market Street, Yonkers & 176 S. Ridge Street, Rye Brook)

“After a long training session where I need to replenish some calories, I like to have two grass-fed patties with tons of veggies wrapped in lettuce which keeps my calorie intake high with low glycemic carbohydrates, and good quality fats and proteins.  They also offer lower calorie salads and chicken options as well.  It’s the healthiest fast food place I’ve ever been to.”

4. Luke Guanzon, Owner of The Refinery Strength and Conditioning (White Plains)

Favorite Healthy Lunch: Lean Steak and Sweet Potato from Green Life (266 Mamaroneck Avenue, Mamaroneck)

“I love it because as I hit my midday lull, the steak gives me the protein I need to keep up with my nutrition goals, and the complex carbs from a sweet potato keeps me satiated longer. It tastes amazing!”

5. Susannah Owen, Studio Manager of YogaWorks (Irvington)

Favorite Healthy Lunch: Kombucha Squash Soup from Red Barn Bakery (4 South Astor Street, Irvington)

“There, the owner, Randell, serves fresh pressed juices – the apple and ginger is my favorite.  I also love their vegan soups. The kombucha squash is delicious.  Everything is organic and locally sourced.  If I’m really needing some protein, I get the organic omelet with mushrooms and tomatoes. That really keeps me going for the rest of the day.”
