$6 to $10: Alvin & Friends
Not only is this stylish (owner Alvin Clayton’s colorful paintings grace the walls) Southern/Caribbean restaurant not kidding about “friends”—it’s one of the most hospitable places around—but lunch there, where it can be hard to get in at night, is a true bargain: Best-of-Westchester fried chicken, with collard greens and exceptional mac and cheese, $9; hot Cuban panini with seasoned fries, $7; and Caesar wedge salad with grilled jerk chicken, $9, are among the many choices.

$10: Turkish Meze
Turkish food fans, lunch is served: $10 cash (or $12 if you pay with a credit card) for two courses, with 18 hot and cold appetizers and 12 main dishes to debate over. If you’re strapped, find many of the same appetizers and some desserts at their new Legume Gourmet Market across the street.

$16: Goldfish Restaurant
In a house on a residential street, with a fish tank and a schmoozy bar, this seafood-oriented restaurant offers a three-course special with lots of choices (try clam chowder, baked cod) and fantastic desserts made by a pastry chef. Overheard at the next table: “We’ve decided not to use our Groupon—we’re going to have the prix fixe.”

$18: Burrata Wood Fired Pizza
Pizza geeks, they’re doing great things here, and the lunch special brings you very good soup or salad plus a generous individual-sized marinara, Margherita, or sopressata pie.

$19: Moderne Barn
While not too cheap, the two-course Express Lunch is a good value for a high-end restaurant, especially with its menu changing weekly. The place is gorgeous; the crowd, chic. There are three options for each course, and the regular lunch menu is reasonably priced as well. We enjoyed pillowy house-made ricotta gnocchi with tomatoes—among the best gnocchi I’ve ever eaten—and saffron arancini with pimenton aioli.
