Bloomberg released its annual analysis of U.S. census data on Wednesday, confirming that once again Westchester County is dominating their list of the country’s 100 wealthiest towns.
Scarsdale residents reported an income increase of $30,000 on average last year, surpassing Cherry Hills Village, CO to claim the title of second wealthiest community in the whole of the United States. Averaging a household income of $417,335 in 2018, Scarsdale is now second only to the Silicon Valley adjacent Atherton, CA. With a margin of only about another $30,000 it is conceivable Scarsdale could be making a play for the top spot some time in the near future.
Also breaking the top ten, Bronxville clocked in at number nine, reporting an average household income of just over $340,000. (Bronxville dropped one place from last year as Darien, CT leapfrogged up from the number ten spot.)
Interestingly, Westchester County itself notably made the list. While the report discovered roughly 40% of the wealthiest communities could be found in one of just six counties — also including Bergen County, NJ; Fairfield County, CT; Los Angeles County, CA; Cook County, IL; and Montgomery County, MD — a whopping nine percent of the top 100 were exclusively in Westchester County, NY.
Additionally, for the first time this year the cutoff income to qualify for the top 100 exceeded the $200,000 threshold. Check out the full top ten list below.
