Spring is almost here, hooray! That means it’s time to do out with the warm, cozy blankets, pillows, and other accessories and make room for accessories that are lighter in weight and lighter in colors.
Local home and lifestyle expert, Lorri Dyner, shares how she gets her home ready for spring and a few simple tricks for how you can do the same.
Just Add Flowers
The biggest thing I do to transition my house to spring is to have flowers out front in my planters and flowers inside. I almost always purchase my outdoor flowers at Home Depot because of the price point and the variety. I will actually buy hanging baskets, cut the plastic strings off, and just put the flower basket straight into the planter – no planting necessary.
Also, fresh flowers inside the home are a great way to help make the transition – I buy all my flowers at Trader Joe’s, which is the best deal in town. Another tip? Ask your local florist for just a bunch of “greens” also known as “filler”. Put that in your vase and you’ll be amazed at how pretty (and how longlasting) it is.
Say Goodbye
When the weather gets warmer, I can’t wait to say goodbye to our humidifiers (I have one in every person’s bedroom). I make sure I clean each one thoroughly with white vinegar and water before I store them.
Also, we start to have more people over in the warmer months, so I really try to do a big deep clean, which includes making sure the dust is off the baseboards and all the lampshades.
Swap Out Accessories
The easiest and most inexpensive way by far is to swap out your throw pillows for something a little different. I love checking out Wayfair and my local Home Goods to find inexpensive, but pretty pillows.
Another easy and inexpensive way to zhush up your room is to swap out a lampshade for something more colorful and custom. You can find terrific vendors on Etsy by searching “custom lampshades.”
