This Award-Winning Greenwich Home Is a Modern Masterpiece

The massive 37,000+ square foot home stands testament to the simple elegance of modern architecture.

At the recent Connecticut-based Home Building Industry (HOBI) Awards, a jaw-dropping contemporary project from Dibico Construction Inc. stood out as a modern masterpiece among a slew of impressive home projects throughout the award show.

The 37,000+ square foot masterpiece, located on a sloping hillside in Greenwich, is a testament to the simple elegance of modern architecture and to the power of mahogany, glass, and stone that brought this five-level family home to life. Originally slated to be a traditional home, the homeowners made a 180-degree change and decided to fulfill their fantasy of a modern home. Julio DiBiase, the founder and CEO of Dibico Construction, introduced them to architect, Gzim Gashi from Marchese-Gashi to bring their vision to fruition.

Once Gashi was on board, aside from the change of gears, the team was faced with another more difficult hurdle: The soil under the surface was contaminated and needed to be removed. Over 40,000 cubic feet of dirt was removed and what had been a problem became an opportunity as the additional below-grade space cleared way for mechanical rooms, sports complex, and an 18-car garage.

The landscape design was also important, since building something this large that doesn’t dominate the street or seem out of place with the other homes is a large consideration. This was accomplished by continuing the clean, modern feel and casual elegance into the exterior features, landscaping and the utilization of the sloping lawn, and a view of the pond, maximizing the natural beauty of the property.

Doyle Herman Design Associates, a frequent collaborator with Dibico, provided the plan for the award-winning outdoor living area, which was then carefully executed by Dibico, landscapers Ceci Brothers, and pool builders Shoreline Pools. The finishing touches were put on by interior designer Marcia Tucker, and include stunning art pieces and custom furniture from the owners’ personal collection.
