Here’s How to Style a Bed, Home Bar, or Console Like a Pro

How to Style a Bar

By Sara Touijer, Touijer Designs

“Start small with a bar cart or cabinet, investing in basic equipment and stocking up on the essentials,” says designer Sara Touijer. On the previous page, the designer created a built-in bar cabinet. Get inspired to create your own spot and “you’ll soon be impressing your guests and schmoozing your boss with your signature cocktail!”

Essential barware includes an ice bucket, martini mixer, strainer, jigger, tongs, muddler, bottle opener, corkscrew, and cocktail spoon.
Include martini glasses, wine glasses (both red and white), shot glasses, highballs, Collins glasses, and beer mugs.
Some extras include a mixology book (to learn to make those fancy drinks you love), cocktail napkins, and Advil for the next day.
Use top-notch spirits. Never serve alcohol that you wouldn’t enjoy yourself.
Don’t forget the mixers: soda, ginger ale, tonic water, bitters, club soda, juices.
Keep plenty of garnishes — lemons, limes, olives — on hand.

How to Style a Bed

By Cami Luppino, Lulu Home

“A foolproof way to accomplish this ideal formula is to start with your favorite accent color,” says designer Cami Luppino. “We recommend carrying that same tone through your layered pillows with the softest color toward the back and the more saturated hue in front. This pairing is pleasant on the eye and is our favorite way of creating a restful retreat.”

How to Style a Console

By Malka Helft, Think Chic Interiors

“This formula creates depth and interest in a contained space, ultimately drawing the eye to the backdrop of your choice,” says designer Malka Helft. “I love this formula because it is a fail-safe way of turning any small space into a mini exhibit of art and personal style.”

The backdrop, whether artwork or a great view, should be your focal point and be anywhere from 75 to 100 percent of the table width.
Place the accessories at various depths on the table and not in a straight line in order to bring more dimension to the space.
The best way to get backdrop colors to pop is to use monochromatic objects in the foreground.
