This 100-year-old barn and carport structure needed major repairs, but the homeowners requested additions that would double the size of the original building. The first level now has room for four cars and a gymnasium, while the second floor was allocated as a sleeping wing and entertainment space, including a bar, kitchen, billiard room, and home theater. Using authentic barn materials, the result is functional, rustic, and worthy of a couple who love to entertain.

Designed to look like a 150-year-old barn, this newly built carriage house has plenty of room for the homeowner’s collection of antique cars, an attached bar, an entertainment area, and a catwalk for viewing the cars from above. Getting the right size, look, and feel of the building required a lot of research into barns of the 1800s. The stone walls were inspired by historic buildings on the Franklin D. Roosevelt Estate in Hyde Park. Three varieties of stone were used to create each wall.
