Now rebranded as RH, this upscale chain of hardware, furniture, and outdoor furnishings is taking its former name literally, restoring old buildings with architectural significance and transforming them into new gallery-like retail spaces. The newest RH Gallery—which replaces its former traditional store further up on Greenwich Avenue—is in the historic Greenwich post office.
Architectural Digest Top 100 Architect James Gillam of Backen, Gillam, and Kroeger collaborated with RH on the project. This distinguished Neoclassical landmark has been meticulously renovated and now houses almost 23,000 square feet of interior and exterior space, including new terraces and public gardens. Unlike its previous retail model, other than some “objects of curiosity,” most of the collection displayed will be custom-ordered for future delivery.
