14 Beechwood Blvd, Rye Brook

This six-bedroom center hall Colonial in the Hillandale section of Rye Brook was built in 1926, reportedly by the founder of the Life Savers Candy Company that, at the time, had a factory in Port Chester. An extensive renovation in 2008 added a large family room; an expanded master bedroom suite with a dressing area, two walk-in closets, upscale bath with two vanities, oversized whirlpool tub, and steam shower; customized closets in every bedroom; wiring for sound inside and out; new heating system; and a new roof. “This is a very special and unique home,” says listing agent Melissa Kaminsky. “It was completely renovated by the current homeowners and offers the opportunity to move right into a beautiful new home. One of the most spectacular rooms is the gourmet kitchen. It’s truly the heart of this home and has everything to make just being in the kitchen pure pleasure. It’s very spacious with cherry cabinets, granite countertops, marble tile backsplash, top-of-the-line stainless steel appliances, a large island with an abundance of storage, a breakfast area, butler’s pantry, and a built-in desk area. Add to that picture windows with beautiful views of the property, not just from the kitchen, but throughout, make it an exceptional place to live.” The sixth bedroom (now used as a playroom) with a full bath and large storage closet over the garage provides a practical alternative to the small unfinished basement. Other pluses: a large front porch complete with swing, a 1,000 square-foot mahogany rear deck, and outdoor fireplace. For more information, contact Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s International Realty listing agent Melissa Kaminsky at (917) 748-8880 or visit http://www.melissakaminsky.juliabfee.com.

The ArtFull Living Designer Show House at Glassbury Court (3370 U.S. Rte. 9, Cold Spring), a collaborative effort between area artists and interior designers and brainchild of Cold Spring glass artist Barbara Galazzo, has extended its run and will remain open Friday through Tuesdays, noon to 4 pm through Sunday, October 14. The $40 ticket price includes lunch, lecture and a house tour. Monet-Inspired Home Gardening Demo

The summer is flying by, but there’s still time for gardening inspiration. Sonia Uyterhoeven, The New York Botanical Garden’s gardener for public education, will explore ways to capture light and shadows in the garden during a special “Light and Reflection in the Garden” workshop at 2 pm on Saturday, August 25, or Sunday, August 26 at The Botanical Garden (2900 Southern Blvd, Bronx). This French-themed home gardening demonstration is part of “Monet’s Garden,” a tribute to French Impressionist Claude Monet and the gardens that inspired his art. The 45-to 60-minute hands-on instruction allows plenty of time to ask your gardening questions. Expect the program that convenes in the plaza of the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory to be held outdoors, rain or shine. Help also is available through tip sheets at the Home Gardening Center’s Kenneth Roman Gazebo and online at www.nybg.org/gardens/home-gardening or through the Plant Information Hotline (718-817-8681 or pltinfo@nybg.org). For more information or to purchase tickets at $20 (includes an all-garden pass), visit www.nybg.org/plan_your_visit, e-mail ticketingsupport@nybg.org, or call (718) 817-8716).
