This little kitchen in Chappaqua needed a lot of love for not a lot of money. Designer/homeowner Brenda Kelly Kramer splurged on a few things (the cherry red Smeg refrigerator, for example) but saved in other places with found materials.
“The island top came from an old woolen mill in Perth, Australia and cost $300; the legs are old newel posts that I got at a tag sale, just $10 each,” she says. “I found three pieces of old marble at a salvage yard so the entire counter top cost just $180.”
She saved on decorative items as well: the vintage hotel silver on the counter came from eBay (just $5 to $15 per piece) and an old sign from a temple in the Netherlands hangs above the refrigerator was $100 from a tag sale.
