Modern Architecture

Carol Kurth FAIA, ASID: Carol Kurth Architecture and Carol Kurth Interiors

Location: Pound Ridge

This modern home, called Art House 2.0, is nestled in a wooded property and is described as a “serene retreat showcasing the client’s growing modern art collection.” Carol Kurth had worked with these clients 20 years ago and collaborated with them again to create this “one-level living”-style home for their enjoyment of nature, art, and love of books. The end result is an open, airy, gallery-like home that frames views of the natural woodland setting. Construction, Legacy Construction Northeast. Kitchen consultant, Jeff Eakly, Bilotta.

The Y shape of this home creates two outdoor spaces, first an arrival court, and on the opposite side, a private patio that overlooks a golf course and the pool. “The outdoor connection was my main motivation,” says architect Mariella Malizia. “The private and the protected concrete patio with pool and pergola is a summer delight. Additionally, all bedrooms have an outdoor balcony or terrace overlooking [the] patio.” The adults and children have their own wings and the exposed steel structure helps to define the spaces. And even though the is very modern, it has a warm feeling throughout.
