Chef/caterer Stephanie Nass’ expertise is making simple moments special through the culinary and visual arts. A Harrison native and owner of culinary brand Chefanie, Nass shares how to elevate the holidays at home this year: “Since we’ve all already been at home for months and will still be at home for the holidays, people will put extra effort into making Christmas, Hanukkah, and Thanksgiving at home feel more special than another day in lockdown.” She adds: “Special table decor will help with that.”

Here are Nass’ tips for creating a celebratory tablescape:

– 1 –

Layer salad plates, dinner plates, and charger plates for height.

– 2 –

Lay the place settings and glassware first. This way, you know what space you have to fill with centerpiece decor.

– 3 –

The table should always feel full, regardless of how many people are present. If a table feels empty because there are fewer people, use the other half as a buffet or fill it with decor elements.

– 4 –

Incorporate snacks into the tablescape, so guests can nibble in between courses.

– 5 –

Incorporate decor that helps with social distancing. A hydrangea table runner in the center of a wide table ensures distance.

– 6 –

Add a personalized touch. Write the guest’s name on a place card or another creative vehicle, like a fruit or cookie.

– 7 –

Use local and seasonal flora. This can vary from late-season hydrangeas to autumn mushrooms to pine-tree branches.

– 8 –

Set the table as far in advance as possible, so you have one less thing to worry about on the day of the event.
