Editor’s Memo: Executive Editor On Our Spring 2015 Issue

When my husband and I bought our first home a little over a year and a half ago, we chose it not because it was a great deal or because we liked the neighborhood. We chose it because we could see our son growing up there, riding his bike down the street with his friends, and we could see ourselves possibly bringing another baby home to it someday.

That’s why I’m so glad that this issue (my first) is all about family—and celebrating the way we live in all parts of our homes.

Anyone who’s had kids knows that they come with a lot of stuff, but that doesn’t mean you can’t live beautifully and have nice things. The constant battle with toys, sports equipment, and piles of laundry can be won—and stylishly at that.

In “The Art and Style of Organization for Kids”, we share tips for organizing, as well as creating a room for your child that meets both his or her needs and your wants. After all, shouldn’t everyone be happy?

And nowhere is that balance more apparent than in “The Perfect Family Home”. This house was designed for a fashionable and functional family. Not only is it impeccable, but it is also whimsical and cozy, making it the perfect place to raise children.

But no matter how gorgeous your home is, it always seems that everyone ends up in the kitchen. It is the heart of the house and where most families (and guests) spend a lot of their time. We especially love the kitchen in “A Family Kitchen”. It is all about family—complete with a wall of kids’ artwork and a homework station.

And just like lots of families, the Westchester Home family is expanding. I want to extend a special thank you to our newest member: Editor-at-Large Nancy Soriano. Not only has she been one of my biggest supporters and one of the people I look up to most in the publishing industry, but the former editor-in-chief of Country Living is one of the more talented people I know. We are so excited to have her on our team.

From our family to yours, we hope you enjoy the new look and feel of the pages you’re about to flip through. We also hope to be a part of your family well into the future and make an appearance in your home every few months (if not more often).
