The ladies at Damselfly Designs know florals, and they make the most incredible summertime centerpieces, among other arrangements. Here, they’re sharing ideas so that you can create your own centerpiece, whether you’re hosting a soiree or simply dining alfresco.
“There is no better way to enhance your tablescape and brighten your outdoor backdrop than with a burst of blooms,” says Damselfly’s Brenda LaManna.
Her advice for the summer includes savoring your time at home. She advises unpacking your finest china, pressing your linen napkins, lighting candles, and welcoming guests with a centerpiece full of serene stems.
LaManna suggests looking around your house for a vase that’s currently being used in your décor or a Mason jar you have in your kitchen. Start by laying out your flowers, largest to smallest, grab your clippers, and get ready to design.
Begin with your greenery and crisscross to create a skeleton shape for your arrangement.
Next, place an odd number of your largest blooms, like Mondial roses, in a triangle to create a shape for the arrangement. Medium-sized lisianthus and hellebore will then round out the design.
To finish, tuck the remaining accent flowers for texture. The Damselfly ladies used tweedia, freesia, and Queen Anne’s Lace.
“Never be intimidated to add from your garden or from your forage during a walk; you find the best treasures that way,” says LaManna. “For this design, we wouldn’t resist [adding] seasonal blueberries.”
Expert Tips:
• Cut your flowers at an angle; they will last longer
• Make sure your stems can reach the bottom of the vessel you’re using
• Found treasures are often the best additions to an arrangement
