Larchmont-based Kim Annick Mitchell’s eponymous firm, KAM Design, has earned many design awards, including “Best of Westchester,” and has worked with the Property Brothers to design two homes that have appeared on their Property Brothers: Buying & Selling show. So it should come as no surprise why clients flock to her for her timeless and expressive interiors that run the gamut from kitchens and bathrooms to whole-home makeovers, renovations, and new builds.

Her design philosophy? “Function first, and beauty follows,” she says. “While each project is rooted in timeless design, I do not seek a signature look; every design is unique—inspired by each client and their design aspirations.” That’s been Mitchell’s guiding principle since she founded her company in 2012.
“I love so many styles, that is why I do not like duplicating the same look over and over,” she notes. “I live in a 100-year-old Tudor, and I am passionate about the character of older homes. My personal aesthetic for my home is timeless, artful, eclectic, and global with historical reference.”
Those tenants of timelessness and sophistication were at play in this Larchmont home office, created for a mom of two young children who works full time from home. “We wanted to stay away from anything that looked or felt like a commercial office,” she explains. “The homeowner wanted her dream space to include built-ins with display opportunities, a desk, hidden placement for her printer (we put it so it’s not seen from the foyer), comfortable seating, and to have a nice Zoom background.”
Mitchell delivered with soft neutrals throughout to create a calm, sophisticated feel with gray-washed oak custom millwork and chevron back panels with integrated LED lighting. “My goal was to create a space the client wanted to be in and felt at home in,” the designer notes. “It is the first room you see when you enter the foyer, so it needed to be warm, welcoming, Zen, and have a stylish, timeless look.”
