Book of the Week: 'House Rules'

Several of the books we feature are by interior designers with tips and tricks for creating a beautiful space to live in, but it all starts with the architect. And architect and teacher Deborah Berke’s namesake, NYC-based design firm, Deborah Berke Partners, has produced some amazing buildings in a wide range of styles during her long career,  whether in the country, mountains, suburbs, or at the beach.

In her new book, House Rules by Deborah Berke, she outlines eight must-dos that not only appeal to those either erecting a new home or rebuilding an existing one, as well anyone seeking a more aesthetically pleasing life.

I especially love the first rule, which advises that property lines do not define a site, as well as Rules 5 (rooms can be inside, outside, or both) and 6 (account for all things, display a few), but everyone can pick up some wisdom from from Deborah’s latest guide.
