This year Bilotta Kitchen & Home is celebrating two huge milestones—their 40th anniversary and the opening of a new showroom at 1040 Mamaroneck Ave, just down the road from the original building where they launched their family business. We sat down with the Bilotta siblings—Jimmy, Maria, and Regina—who run the company, to see what’s in store for them this year.
“A new showroom after 40 years is a whole new face for us,” says Regina. “It’s a milestone like any other and is the most remarkable in our history.” She adds that walking into the new space is like having your makeup done or putting on a new outfit. “It’s incredibly beautiful!” she adds. “We are often mistaken for a ‘mom and pop shop,’ rather than the largest sister, sister, and brother operation in the industry.” But with approximately 250 kitchen projects a year ranging from single family residences to multi-unit developments, they have proven to be a force in the design business.
Behind all the newness is a wonderful history. Started by the siblings’ father Jim Sr. in 1985 at 564 Mamaroneck Ave., Bilotta Kitchen & Home as we know it today has grown and changed, but they’ve retained many employees who have been with them since the beginning. “Countless colleagues started their careers here 40 years ago,” says Regina. “We love knowing their families, meeting their children, watching them grow—and doing their kids’ kitchens!”
She adds that it was the original building that brought the siblings together and into the business. “We came from different backgrounds,” says Regina. “My sister was in food service, Jimmy was working construction with [our dad], and I was somewhat in urban planning. When this building came up for sale, my dad bought it and said, ‘Let’s give this a try’ and that’s when the business really became a family business.”
And now it’s about introducing new clients and designers to Bilotta. “At the end of 40 years, we see people who have been with us that long have started to retire,” says Jimmy. “[Over] the past couple of years, we have brought in young designers and new staff. We’d love to see [the next generation of Bilottas] join the business as well,” he adds.
This year, the company is also offering a new service called “Bilotta Care & Maintenance” which will specialize in repairs, finishes, and adding accessories like rollouts, spice drawers, and more.
“The first building brought us all together,” says Regina, “and now the new building is bringing all these new people together, so it’s a 40-year cycle and that’s why I feel so emotional about it.”
