The recently widowed client wanted to downsize; she was the inspiration for the design. “She is a warm, welcoming woman who want[ed] the home she lives in to represent that,” say Alexandra Amirian and Julia Oddo. This project gave the designers the chance to play with patterns, textures, and colors. “We love being able to create an eclectic space using contemporary artwork against more glamorous or traditional furniture and popping the design with fun and colorful fabrics,” say the pair. One of their favorite pieces in the room is a repurposed rocking chair placed in the reading nook. “We had the wooden frame stripped and refinished and reupholstered the seat and back with new inserts and fabric,” say the designers. It was the client’s late mother’s, and it meant the world to her.

This bright sunroom is a multifunctional space that provides an oasis for the homeowner to relax and decompress after a long day. The inspiration for the design was the “power of nature.” The room has large windows on three sides, so it is literally surrounded by the garden. A piece of art became the basis for the simple palette. “The various shades of green against the white backdrop give the room a feeling of freshness and renewal,” says designer Lynette Bard. Dual purposes are very important in small spaces, so the sofa pulls out to provide a guest bed for visitors, plus a small desk and bookshelf provide a simple workspace.

The homeowner asked for an inviting and serene guestroom. “I love the pale blue ceiling that mimics the sky next to the soft white walls that have just a whisper of pink,” says designer Lynette Bard. “[And] the nook in the window is the perfect spot to read or daydream.” The geometric Robert Allen Deseo Jade fabric provides a soft palette. Every piece, except the mirrored chest of drawers, was custom-built. It all comes together not only to serve multiple functions, but also to create a restful atmosphere.
