Best Places to Live: Riverview Manor, Hastings-on-Hudson

Best for professionals, families, and city dwellers looking to put down their suburban roots.

Blueprint: Though Dobbs Ferry and Hastings weren’t incorporated until the early 1880s, they are steeped in American history, beginning with trading between the Dutch and Algonquin Indians in the mid-17th century. Immigrant populations from Europe in the 19th century contributed to local economies that were heavily dependent on mining and stone masonry, with these products exported to Europe and Latin America.

Façade: Riverview Manor, a hilly area overlooking the Hudson, bridges Rivertowns Dobbs Ferry and Hastings-on-Hudson. It features Tudors, larger manor houses, and ranches, a quiet residential area that’s a short walk to the waterfront.

Foundation: Situated on the northernmost hill of Hastings-on-Hudson, Riverview Manor, with homes sited beautifully on ample properties, was built in the early 20th century. Though a higher-end neighborhood, “the people are friendly, and they say hello,” says resident Jill Padawer. “It’s down-to-earth, not pretentious.”
