Designer Brenda Kelly Kramer (brendakellykramer.com) found this mid-century chair at a junk store. “I loved the cool, clean lines and the finish of the chair,” she says. “It deserved a retro pattern and I chose a hip, Designer’s Guild cut chenille fabric in a fun pattern, but neutral color. I didn’t want to have busy colors taking away from the cleanness of the chair.” Thrilled with her bargain and wanting to know a little bit more about its provenance, she took it to Michael Kalesti at Kent Home in Chappaqua, a store that specializes in mid-century modern. He told her that a chair like that would retail for around $1,500 in his shop.
Bottom Line:
Cost of Chair: $75
Fabric from eBay: $50
Reupholstery: $200
Total: $325
