Who: Barrett Oswald, Barrett Oswald Designs
What: A traditional bedroom in a center-hall Colonial in Larchmont gets a modern and cozy update. “Our first steps were to strip the space of its relaxed Roman shades and beige paint to create a blank canvas,” says Oswald.
Inspiration: “Our clients wanted a bedroom that was bold and masculine in design yet cozy and comfortable in feel,” says Oswald. “[They] asked for a modern ‘King of the North’ vibe. It was such a fun concept and definitely one of our more unique requests.”
Favorite Part: “We added floor-to-ceiling window panels that enclose the room with extra warmth and an element of luxury,” says Oswald. “We love that each piece in this space is unique but perfectly complements one another when combined.”
What’s Included: A concave mirror over a four-poster metal bed, a Mid-Century-inspired leather bench, faux-horn nightstands with black-and-white marble lamps, and a sharply patterned rug.
Materials: “We used materials that held significant presence in color and/or composition to create a strong, rich, and textured feel,” says Oswald. “To soften those bolder elements, we added crisp, white sheets, a fur throw, and neutral walls.”
What Every Master Bedroom Needs: “[A design] that is based on a clients’ ideal feeling. Master bedrooms tend to have less functional demands than living rooms and family areas,” says Oswald. “Regardless of style, a master bedroom should feel like a sanctuary at the end of a long day.”
