If you’re looking for a new spot to shop for antiques, head straight to The Barns in the Riverside neighborhood of Greenwich. Owner and antique expert Ali Mahon opened the space last summer on her home property, a quaint red barn filled with a mix of American, English, Swedish, French, and Italian antique and vintage finds including furniture, baskets, folk art, and more.
After leaving a career in finance in 2006 to stay home with her children, Mahon still wanted to keep busy. “Buying and selling antiques was something I loved that ebbed and flowed as I raised my family,” she says. Mahon lived in Connecticut until 2011, and then moved to Palm Beach where she focused on interior design. “Once I moved back to Greenwich in 2019, I realized how much I missed buying and selling items and curating the mix of the best of what I love.”
The Riverside property where The Barns is now located was next door to where Mahon grew up, land that had been in her family since the 1990s. She started restoring the property a few years ago with the goal of turning it into a showroom for her collections. “In 1804, the barns were used for storing horses and wagons, a summer kitchen, and tools and machinery for the chestnut tree farm,” says Mahon. “In the 2000s, the summer kitchen was my children’s playhouse, and the larger barn was my shop—a low-key version of what it is now.”

If you’re looking for that special piece to round out any design or room, this treasure trove may be the key. Mahon sources items from her travels, antique and design showrooms, other antique shops, dealers, auctions, and estate sales. “I’m always on the hunt!” Mahon says. She loves collecting and decorating with antiques as well as discovering special pieces that have one-of-a-kind stories and handmade quality. “Whether it’s an early American piece of folk art or a Swedish Mora clock or French pottery or an Italian painted table, finding an exceptional example truly excites me,” she says. “Sharing these pieces and provenances with those who love them too is my passion.”
