Best Places to Live 2018: Armonk

If you’ve stumbled upon a small town that’s perfect for families — with equal parts country and urban flair — you just might be in Armonk. The hamlet, which sits north of the Kensico Reservoir, has undergone a transformation in recent years. Fashionable businesses and shops have sprouted in the town center, adding vibrancy and spirit to this sleepy suburb previously known for being the home of IBM.

“It’s the perfect mix of country-charm-meets-city-chic,” says Antonette Guido, a licensed broker with Douglas Elliman and an Armonk resident. “We have the farmhouses, lakes, and great parks, but with an urban flair. We have trendy restaurants, and many people envy our town center, where we have a bunch of cute, little shops.”

Guido has also found that the town is the perfect spot for her family — boasting a top-notch school district, excellent preschool programs for parents and kids alike, and a recreation center with numerous children’s activities, including buses that allow kids to come to the facility right after school.

However, the unique family-friendly, country-urban vibe doesn’t come cheap: The median sales price in the hamlet was just over $1 million last year.
