A Design District in Mamaroneck

Take a stroll through Mamaroneck to browse these designer resources and shops. Discover some welcome surprises in this tiny hamlet’s sleepy little shopping district.

Though not as quaint as its neighbor, Larchmont, Mamaroneck has its own salt-of-the-earth charm that dates back to its boatbuilding, seafaring roots. And though it boasts some grand waterfront estates, its overall ambience, especially along busy Mamaroneck Avenue and adjacent areas, is decidedly unpretentious. Of particular interest is a design district of sorts that has sprung up in its Flats section, an area of repurposed warehouses and commercial buildings. Here, a guide to the go-to home-design resources in this hardworking town.

The Flats District

Motif Designs/Lyn Peterson Design

These well-known sister companies are housed in one shared, loft-like space. Motif sources and curates collections of home furnishings exclusively to the trade; Lyn Peterson Design is a highly acclaimed interior design firm, whose namesake, the author of three decorating books as well as a licensed contractor, has three House Beautiful covers to her credit.
