4 Ways To Spice Up The Home Office

Okay, summer’s over and it’s back to school and back to projects—the perfect time to prep your workspace. Patti O’Shaughnessy, of Patricia O’Shaughnessy Design offers the following ideas:

Desk: An old fashioned art table with an indestructible work surface is the best place to work out ideas, write long hand, tinker, draw, and play. Or choose a drop leaf table where you can drop the leaves and push it up against a wall when not in use; a table on wheels offers flexibility.

Chairs: There is no rule that your desk chair has to be black. Almost every chair at Staples or Office Depot can be ordered in a color if you are willing to wait a few weeks. Looking for something trendier? Design Within Reach is a good choice.

Floor: Add a pop of color with Chilewich rugs, made of Textilene, to protect your flooring from a rolling desk chair. It’s a great surface for under the craft table as well, as it cleans up with a sponge! Visit chilewich.com or dwr.com for ideas.

Storage: Hide the cords and clutter while adding color to your workspace. We loved the cabinet pictured above, center from Crate & Barrel 2.
