This Westchester property blends iconic era looks on a lush landscape and a few choice redesigns to create a unique and stylish home.
Personal confession: A classic 1950s ranch is my default conception of what a “house” should look like. My grandparents had one and I grew up in one, as did many of my friends. They’re simple, iconic, and I will forever know which door is the bathroom and which is the linen closet anywhere I go. This property, though, is something altogether different.
Location: 3 Laura Ln, Scarsdale
Asking Price: $1,425,000; Est. Taxes: $37,895
Originally built in 1955, this 5-bedroom/4-bath ranch maintains the sturdy, low-profile façade of its contemporaries, albeit on a vibrant and meticulously manicured half-acre of lush lawn, aged stone paths, and an enclosed pool area designed to mimic a natural grotto with bubbling waterfall.
Inside, however, the layout is nothing like my grandmother’s quaint little abode. The front door opens into a grand atrium large enough for most celebratory functions, around which the rest of the house is arranged. Two bedrooms share a Jack-and-Jill bathroom to the right, with a third and a private bath adjacent on the far wall, next to a sizeable master suite featuring a massive walk-in closet, a contemporary fireplace, and a gloriously deep soaking tub in the master bath. Left of the atrium, you’ll find an updated kitchen and an open floorplan dining room–living room–family room.
A lower level adds an additional bedroom/office and full bath, laundry room, and large children’s playroom with its own entrances, as well as a separate space for an office and gym.
Selling Points: An eclectic but balanced blend of contemporary styles; gorgeous grounds; and a recent price reduction.
