Considering the talented names associated with the property, like garden designer Clarence Fowler and architect Julius Gregory, it’s no wonder this commanding six-bedroom English country manor in the Sutton Farms section of New Rochelle oozes elegance from its grand gated entrance to the multiple colorful gardens that embellish the one-and-a-half-acre lush landscape. “It’s an unbelievable house,” says listing agent Mimi Magarelli. “What’s most impressive is the way it’s been lovingly taken care of. The current owners, who have been its caretakers for 20 years, restored it. For example, they replaced the 82 windows and were careful to keep a piece of antique glass in each window to replicate the original windows. They also carefully preserved the hand-pegged teak wood flooring with wide random width planks that gives the home a rich, soft feel. Despite the 8,000 square feet, the house feels comfortable. It’s a warm and inviting home.” Built in 1928, the manor features detail after detail of the period, including four ensuite bathrooms with original hand-painted vibrant tile work, six fireplaces, and fine millwork throughout. But, 1920s architecture doesn’t mean 1920s living. While restoring and preserving the home’s distinctive character, the owners also filled it with the form and function of today’s must-have comforts and conveniences, such as a full service gourmet kitchen with a Gaggenau cooktop with grill, Sub-Zero refrigerator, two wall ovens, two dishwashers, and a convection oven, a five-room master suite complete with his and her dressing rooms and a marble master bath with a Jacuzzi and separate steam shower, a two-room au pair suite, and a 10-room Bang & Olufsen audio system. The property has everything but the walking proximity to school, train, and shops. For more information, contact Julia B. Jacques Jarrige Sculptural Functional Furniture Exhibit

Photo by Garret Linn, courtesy of Valerie Goodman Gallery

Last chance to see the one-of-a-kind distinctive sculptural, yet functional, furniture of artist-artisan Jacques Jarrige. The “Meanders”: Furniture in Movement exhibit runs through Friday, July 20, at the Valerie Goodman Gallery (315 E 91st St, Manhattan) known for presenting work by important contemporary French artists. The signature exhibit features Jarrige’s never-before-seen, functional art creations—including sculpted cabinets, room dividers, desks, and lighting—that the gallery describes as suggesting “both the uneven meanderings of nature and the sophisticated comfort of urban modernity.” Jarrige describes his creative process as starting with drawings then works with a variety of materials as needed, such as bending iron and sculpting wood, to bring his visions to life with whimsy and spirituality. The gallery is open Monday through Friday, 10:30 am to 5 pm, and by appointment. For more information, call (212) 348-2968 or visit www.valeriegoodmangallery.com.
